This is Follow Jesus Radio encouraging you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him daily. The title of this devotional thought is: He Changes the Heart.
"And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live."
— Deuteronomy 30:6 (KJV)
This is one of the most comforting promises in all of Scripture. Why? Because it shows us that the salvation of sinners is ultimately God’s work, not man’s.
The Lord does not merely command us to love Him while leaving us helpless in the deadness of our sin. He acts. He comes directly to our deepest problem—the human heart—and He completely changes it.
That is what this ancient language of "circumcising the heart" is all about. It means that God sovereignly cuts away our spiritual hardness, our deep-seated rebellion, and our stubborn unbelief. He makes us willing and able to love and obey Him.
This is not only a word for ancient Israel. It points us directly to the saving grace of God fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
By nature, every sinner is spiritually dead—unable and unwilling to love God as we ought. But when God saves us, He doesn’t just patch up our outward behavior. He gives us a brand-new heart. He opens our blind eyes. He softens what was cold and hard. By His grace, He grants us the gifts of repentance and saving faith, drawing us gently to Himself.
This means no one is saved by their own religious effort, family heritage, or outward morality. Salvation is the merciful work of God from beginning to end.
And that truth gives us immense hope today. If God is the One who changes the heart, then absolutely no sinner is beyond His sovereign power to save.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus, thank You that my salvation rests securely in Your hands, from start to finish. Thank You for softening my hard heart and giving me the grace to love and follow You today. I pray for those in my life who seem far away—reach down, change their hearts, and draw them to Yourself. Amen.
That's it for this podcast. Remember, Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
