This is Follow Jesus Radio encouraging you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow him daily. The title of this devotional thought is: The Evening News and the Birth Pains.
Scripture: Mark 13:8 (ESV)
"For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains."
Sometimes, watching the evening news feels like reading a transcript of Mark 13. We see headlines of geopolitical unrest, reports of natural disasters, and the tragic reality of global want. It can be overwhelming, and even frightening, to watch the world seemingly unravel in real-time.
However, for the follower of Christ, these events are not a sign that God has lost control; they are exactly what Jesus predicted. He used a specific and powerful metaphor to describe these moments: birth pains.
Birth pains are intense and painful, yet they serve a purpose—they signal that something new and glorious is about to be born. These global "pains" remind us that this world, in its current broken state, is not our final home. The labor of history is leading toward the return of the King.
Our response to the news shouldn't be panic, but persistence. Jesus warned of these things so that we would not be caught off guard. Our task remains the same regardless of the headlines: Stay obedient to Jesus to the end. Don't let the chaos of the world distract you from the Great Commission or the quiet work of daily faithfulness.
Let’s pray. Lord, when the world feels unstable, remind me that Your Word is certain. Help me to look at the news through the lens of Your prophecy and to respond with steady faith rather than fear. Grant me the strength to remain obedient and focused on Your Kingdom until the very end. Amen.
That's it for this podcast. Follow Jesus Radio is here 24 hours a day to encourage you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him daily. Remember, Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
