This is Follow Jesus Radio, encouraging you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him daily. The title of this devotional thought is: When Heaven Opens.
Our Scripture is Ezekiel 1:1 (NKJV): "Now it came to pass... as I was among the captives by the River Chebar, that the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God."
Ezekiel was far from home, living among the captives in Babylon. Humanly speaking, it seemed like the worst place to experience God's presence. Yet it was there that the heavens were opened, and Ezekiel saw a vision of God's glory.
Today, we no longer look for visions like Ezekiel received, because God has given us something even greater. Hebrews 1:1–2 tells us that God, who spoke through the prophets in many ways, has now spoken to us by His Son. Jesus Christ is God's final and perfect revelation. If you want to know what God is like, look to Jesus. As Jesus said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father."
But seeing Christ is not merely a matter of physical eyesight. The Lord must open our hearts. Jesus said in John 6:44, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him." Left to ourselves, we remain spiritually blind. It is God's gracious work to open our eyes to see the beauty of His Son and to draw us to faith in Him.
Perhaps today you feel like Ezekiel—living in difficult circumstances or wondering where God is. Remember this: the greatest vision God has given the world is His Son, Jesus Christ. Ask the Father to open your heart more and more to know Him, trust Him, and follow Him. When our eyes are fixed on Jesus, we see the glory, grace, and love of God.
Let's pray:
Father, thank You for speaking to us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Open our hearts and minds by Your Holy Spirit to see His beauty and believe Your Word. Draw those who do not yet know Christ to saving faith, and help those of us who do know Him to keep our eyes fixed on Him each day. May Jesus be our vision, our hope, and our joy. In His name we pray, amen.
Until next time, keep your eyes on Jesus.
That's it for this podcast. Remember, Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
