Guarding Against Deception
Deception is defined as "the act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid."
Writing to the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul shared his heart:
2 Corinthians 11:3 (NIV)
"But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ."
What subtle distractions attempt to draw us away from pure devotion?

* Satan’s quiet lies
* Seeking revelation outside of God's Word
* Prioritizing active ministry over quiet fellowship
* Seeking revelation outside of God's Word

* Unconfessed secret sins
* Giving weight to voices other than Jesus
* Subtle pride or hidden addictions
In Colossians 2:8, Paul warns us against worldviews that look good on the surface:
"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ."
We must actively guard against a sinful, unbelieving heart. As Hebrews 3:12–13 encourages:
* Giving weight to voices other than Jesus
* Subtle pride or hidden addictions
