This is Follow Jesus Radio encouraging you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him daily. The title of this devotional thought is: The God of Jacob.
"The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;"
— Psalm 20:1 (KJV)
Think about that title: "the God of Jacob." Out of all the ways God could describe Himself, He frequently connects His name to Jacob. And if you know Jacob’s story, that is incredibly good news! Jacob wasn't a perfect saint. He was a schemer, a runner, and a man with plenty of flaws.
Yet, God chose him and blessed him continually. When Jacob was running for his life, sleeping with a stone for a pillow, God met him at Bethel and promised to be with him wherever he went. When Jacob was terrified to face his past, God met him, wrestled with him, changed his name, and blessed him. God loved Jacob not because Jacob was perfect, but because He is a God of covenant faithfulness and grace.
When the psalmist prays, "the name of the God of Jacob defend thee," he is pointing you to a beautiful truth. The God of Jacob is the God who defends the weak, forgives the runner, and restores the broken.
And through faith in Jesus Christ, the God of Jacob is your God today!
When you face a "day of trouble"—whether it's a difficult conversation, a sudden worry, or a heavy burden—remember who you are calling on. You aren't praying to a distant stranger. You are praying to the God who chased down Jacob with grace. He knows your weakness, yet He surrounds you with His ultimate defense.
Let’s pray: Lord Jesus, thank You that the God of Jacob is my God today. Thank You that Your love is based on Your grace, not my performance. Defend me, guide me, and fill me with Your peace today. Amen.
That's it for this podcast. Remember, Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
