"Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb." — Revelation 22:1
In the final chapter of the Bible, we are given a glimpse of the ultimate restoration. At the center of the New Jerusalem is the throne of God and of the Lamb. It is the seat of all authority and the source of all holiness. But notice what comes out of that throne: not a fire of judgment, but a river of life.
This water is described as "clear as crystal." It is pure, untainted, and refreshing. This is the river of eternal life—the life of sins forgiven, of shame washed away, and of a relationship with God made perfect through Jesus Christ.
The beauty of the Gospel is that this river isn't just a destination we are waiting to reach in heaven. Jesus told the woman at the well that the water He gives becomes a "spring of water welling up to eternal life" (John 4:14).
When you accepted Jesus, the throne of God was established in your heart. The same river that flows in the celestial city now flows within you. Because Jesus paid the price for your sins, the blockage has been removed. His life—His peace, His joy, and His purity—now courses through your spirit. You are no longer a stagnant pond; you are a channel for the Living Water.
A river is never meant to stay in one place; it is defined by its movement. If the water of life is inside you, it is meant to overflow.
When you show grace to someone who doesn't deserve it, the river is flowing. When you offer a word of hope to the brokenhearted, the crystal-clear water of the throne is splashing onto those around you. We don't have to "work up" this life on our own; we simply have to stay connected to the Source.
Today, remember that you carry the life of the New Jerusalem within you. Let the forgiveness you’ve received from the Lamb flow out as love for your neighbor.
Let's pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for the river of life that flows from Your throne. Thank You for washing me clean and placing Your Spirit within me. Help me to live today not out of my own limited strength, but out of Your endless overflow. May the life and forgiveness I have found in You reach everyone I encounter today. Amen.
