Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit

This is Follow Jesus Radio encouraging you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow him daily. The title of this devotional thought is: Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 4:30 (BSB):
"And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."

This command is both a warning and a comfort. It is a warning because true believers can grieve the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is not an impersonal force—He is God Himself, dwelling within you. When you cling to sin—whether in speech, anger, bitterness, or impurity—you are not just breaking a rule; you are grieving a Person.

The context makes this clear. Just before this verse, Paul confronts sins like corrupt talk, deceit, and unresolved anger (Ephesians 4:25–29). These are not small issues—they are offenses against the holy God who lives in His people.

But this verse is also a comfort. You are “sealed unto the day of redemption.” That means the Spirit does not abandon true believers. He secures you, guarantees your final salvation, and preserves you to the end. The call, then, is not to earn salvation, but to live in a way that reflects the new life you have been given.

So how do you respond? Put sin to death. Reject what dishonors God. Walk in holiness. And when you do sin, repent quickly—turn from it and return to Christ, who has fully paid for your forgiveness.

To grieve the Spirit is serious—but the very presence of the Spirit in you is proof of God’s unbreakable saving work.

That's it for this podcast.Remember, Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
