Christian - forgiven - grateful

Welcome! My name is Richard Templin Hancock and I am a senior citizen who has found great peace in his old age in the forgiveness that Jesus Christ offers to sinners. I enjoy reading my Bible and recording short Devotional podcasts with the aim to encourage us all to have faith in God and follow His Son Jesus Christ every day.
I hope the following blog posts will be an encouragement to you:

The Promise of Presence

The Promise of Presence

“Because he loves Me, I will deliver him; because he knows My name, I will protect him. When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” — Psalm 91:14-16

Most of Psalm 91 is written from the perspective of a believer encouraging others to trust in God. But in these final three verses, the perspective shifts beautifully. Here, the Creator Himself speaks to give a personal guarantee to those who walk with Him.

What is striking about this passage is that God’s response is rooted in relationship. He doesn’t say, "Because he is perfect, I will deliver him," or "Because he never fails, I will protect him." Instead, He says, "Because he loves Me" and "because he knows My name."

To "know His name" in the biblical sense is more than just memorizing a title; it is an intimate acquaintance with His character. It means knowing Him as Jehovah Jireh (The Lord who Provides), Jehovah Rapha (The Lord who Heals), and Jehovah Shalom (The Lord is Peace). When you know who He is, you can trust Him when the storm hits.

Perhaps the most comforting phrase is: "I will be with him in trouble." God does not always promise to remove the trouble immediately, but He promises that we will never face it alone.

Remember, God isn't looking for religious performance today; He is looking for a heart that loves Him and a mind that seeks to know His character. How can you "know His name" more deeply today?

Let's pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for the depth of Your love. Help me to know Your name more intimately today. When I face trials, remind me that You are not distant, but right beside me. I choose to set my love upon You, trusting in Your promise to deliver, protect, and satisfy me. Thank You for the gift of Your salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
